The office of Sheriff is an elected position with the Sheriff serving a term of four years. Sheriff's office duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Civil Process (Prepayment required for service fees)
  • Court Security
  • Jail Operations
  • Jail/Courthouse Maintenance

  • 10 Full-Time Correctional Deputies

K9 Thor and K9 Zero

K9's have been trained for multi-purpose for the following:

  • Drug Interdiction
  • Evidence Search
  • Narcotics Detection
  • Tracking

  • Directions: Take I-70 exit 61, turn east on Randolph to 8th Street, turn south, travel 3 blocks to Johnson
  • Law Enforcement Entrance: South door of jail

PREA Mission Statement

The Fayette County Jail is a division of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office under the responsibility and control of the Fayette County Sheriff, Chief Deputy and Jail Administrator.

It is the mission of the Fayette County Jail to protect the public while providing a safe, clean, zero tolerance, and well-managed environment for employees, inmates and visitors.

These goals shall be attained through effective management of policy and procedure, quality staff training, inmate accountability, and a facility maintenance program, all performed in a professional manner.

It is also our mission to provide those incarcerated, employees, and visitors with zero tolerance of sexual abuse, education, behavior management, and various program opportunities designed to improve their ability to return as productive members of society.

Courthouse Security

BY ORDER OF THE COURT
PROPER DRESS REQUIRED

When entering the Courthouse, an appropriate dress code will be observed by all, including litigants, witnesses, jurors and spectators.

The following is NOT appropriate dress:
Cut-off pants, tank tops, halter tops, mesh shirts, shirts with inappropriate or offensive logos, pictures, or writing, shirts with sleeves cut off, short skirts, short shorts, or pajama pants.
Notwithstanding the above, if a Judge determines your attire is not appropriate, and you are a participant, your case may be continued, or you may be asked to return in proper attire.

  • NO Firearms (whether real, fake, replica toy or otherwise)

  • NO Firearm holding devices

  • NO Ammunition

  • NO Explosive or Incendiary devices

  • NO Knives

  • NO Mace or Pepper spray

  • NO Glass items

  • NO Tools

  • NO Heavy Chains – to be determined by staff not patrons

  • NO Entry for any items that can be used as a weapon

  • NO Restraining Devices or Restraining Device Keys

  • NO Biker or Gang jackets including flags, symbols or colors

  • NO Large Bags

  • NO Food or Drink from outside the facility

  • NO Food allowed above the 1st Floor

  • NO Electronics – cell phones, computers, laptops, tablets, readers, camera, audio or video recorders, bluetooth devices, communication watches, games or any other electronics

Helpful Hints:
Remember, electronics are not allowed. If there is information that you feel is important on your phone or other electronic device, you must print that information ahead of time, so it can be brought into the Courthouse.
